This is an intensely flavoured, weighty red, similar in style to the rich, powerful and highly sought after reds of Priorat. The big difference, however, is the price – a fraction of that asked for Priorat wines. It was made at the Padró family cellar, founded in 1898, which draws on the expertise of winemaker Mario García. He has had experience throughout Spain (including Priorat, Montsant and Penedès), and has achieved many 5-Star ratings from top wine guide Guía Peñín. Combining concentrated, old bush vine (up to 70 years old) Monastrell (known to us as Mourvèdre or Mataro) plus a portion of strawberry-scented Tempranillo, it’s a lavish and layered wine that’s really hard to resist. It's a brilliant partner to grilled meats, or pair it with your next tapas feast. Delicious!

The Full Fifteen is a powerful customer favourite boasting pages of 5-star online reviews. Andrew McPherson, or ‘Big Mac’ to friends, launched this mighty Aussie red in 2003. It was an instant hit with customers and we really didn’t think it could get any better. Then, in 2012, Andrew appointed Jo Nash as chief winemaker and quality went up another step. Mother of four and married to another winemaker, she's a very busy lady, but fits it all in with a big smile and has many top awards to her name. She took the much-loved Full Fifteen and added yet more layers of gorgeous flavour, all with an elegant touch. Punnets of black summer berries mingle with a seductive, smoky spice. A Big Red to pair with a rib-eye steak or a hearty casserole.

Manera reveals the Cortese grape’s citrus and almond tang in all its refreshing glory. The wine comes from Castel Boglione, the only town in the region on the valley floor. Once covered in thick woodland, and often dense fog, the area had an unsavoury reputation for bandits and thieves. Today its reputation is based solely on quality wines. This is the closest thing to a steal here these days – a well priced ‘little Gavi’ that winemaker Claudio Manera is proud to put his name to. It has a freshly sliced green apple aroma with hints of almond. And, like great Gavi, it has what the experts call ‘energy’ in the glass – meaning it’s pure, tangy and fresh. A lovely aperitivo that's also great with tuna carpaccio or pea and fennel risotto.
