Wine Summary
Villa Poggia Salvi turns out some of Italy’s finest Brunello di Montalcino, regularly winning high points from top critics like James Suckling and Wine Enthusiast. And here’s an interesting thing. The DOCG classification for Montalcino di Brunello requires the grapes to come from vines that are at least four years old. Villa Poggia Salvi won’t use grapes from vines less than 12 years old – that’s how high their standards are. So what does Villa Poggia Salvi do with fruit from vines that are only 11 years old? They turn it into wines like this – a sumptuous barrel-aged red very much in the Brunello mould, but with fewer of those formidable tannins. It's stunning.
