In 2011 Carlos Plaza was named Winemaker of the Year, the youngest ever to win this. But then he has been making wine since he was a small boy. Every morning he'd wake up, check to see if the red key was on the hook. If it wasn't, he'd know his father was already in the cellar, and would jump on his bike and join him. His enthusiasm hasn't waned one bit in the intervening 25+ years but now he's running the estate himself. His dedication and passion have been amply rewarded with all his medals, including three prestigious awards for this wine plus a Good Value award on its launch vintage. This mature release of his La Llave Roja, using Tempranillo from 70 year old vines and aged in barrel for eight months (8 meses), is a top choice for lamb.
