Wine Summary
In the last two vintages, this velvety red has scooped five top Golds; only just released, we expect more from the 2017. It’s made in the classic southern Rhône style and its richness is partly due to the same remarkable ‘pudding stones’ you find in the vineyards of Châteauneuf. They absorb heat by day and release it at night, helping grapes to optimum ripeness. The estate is situated between Nîmes and Arles, with excellent terroir for its 50 hectares of vines and 7 hectares of olive trees. Indeed, the 13th century property was once famous for its hunting and a favourite haunt of King Louis IX. From another excellent vintage – great on quality, low on quantity – this red is best decanted early. Serve with grilled red meats or a casserole.
